The Organizational Chart of an NFL Team Part 2 – The Board of Directors

Good game last night – not a Cowboys fan at all but good win for them non the less.
Today we are going to explore the Board of Directors of an NFL teams organizational chart. The Board of Directors are generally there to protect and help the Chairman at all costs. Generally speaking these are jolly fellows with a boatload of intelligence. Very fun people to be around and can be very giving – as long as you don’t cross the Chairman. Is there any doubt that this group is represented by the offensive line? In business these giys will squeeze you until your resources run dry and in the NFL the O-Line will squeeze you until your head pops off. Ever notice the special relationship between QBs and the line. Remember Dan Marino buying his line Isotoner gloves over the holiday season? Special treatment – probably the same kind that happens in the executive lounge when the big guys are doling out year end bonuses! Needless to say whether its the Board and Chairman or the O-line and the QB – this is a privileged circle that provides plenty of dividends and perks – as long as you can provide the right kind of protection.

Leaf game tonight! Go Leafs Go!

The Organizational Chart of an NFL Team – The Chairman of the Board

When taking a look at the make up of your favorite NFL team it probably resembles the organization you work for. I thought I would outline some of the similarities between the two.

There are unwritten rules in everything and this is no different. The QB is always, always, always the Chairman of the Board/CEO/President of the team. Don’t ever be confused of this truth, no matter how powerful the coach pretends to be. The best QBs and CEOs are generally quite intelligent, well spoken, inspirational leaders (insert Peyton Manning). The not so good ones are self-centered, ego-maniacs (anyone else remember Ryan Leaf). So basically the QB/CEO sets the tone and makes changes as needed. Nothing like a good audible at the line of scrimmage. Great teams, and successful organizations will always have one thing in common, a strong leader at the top of the org chart.

Check in tomorrow when we outline the rest of the Board of Directors.

Enjoy the Monday Nighter!

Top 10 DIY tools

Let’s take the list to number 9!

Coming in here as the number 9 DIY tool is the auger.  Anyone who has built a fence or a deck can attest that using a powered auger is going to save you time/money/and a lot of blisters vs. using a manual auger or clamshovel! Granted you need to be careful.  Behind the rental counter we have seen numberous times where people have tried to drive a 4′ hole with one pass – big mistake – most units do not have a reverse – and if you are one of the lucky ones you will be able to spin the auger out by hand. Augers of the 2 man variety generally will be able to provide you with a 4″-12″ hole for you to set your posts in.

Any project where you are opening up more than a couple of holes – you should visit your local rental supplier and rent an auger.  Do yourself and your hands a favour!

I would love to hear your stories and learn about your projects where you have used an auger or any other piece of equipment!

Equipment Rental Experiences

Over the past 13 years I have been lucky to view home renovation and other projects develop from behind an equipment rental counter.  I have seen some great stuff – and some that could belong on Disaster DIY! With that in mind I thought I would go over a list of the top 10 powered hand tools I have seen to help home owners “GET IT DONE!” … Quick and Easy.

Coming in at number 10 is a favourite of many people renovating their homes: The Drywall Lift!  If you have ever put up sheets of drywall without this tool while standing on a ladder - you know how tedious of a job it can be.  I’m sure quite a few screw guns have gone sailing across the room. Many DIYers have saved a bunch of time completing their drywall jobs by renting a lift at a reasonable rate.

Look forward to hearing about your experience putting up drywall! Would love to hear your success stories!

Stanley Cup Finals!

I’ve been a huge sports fan all my life.  Can’t wait for the finals to get going tonight!  Hope this is going to be a hard-fought battle.  As a Toronto Maple Leafs fan I truly can not stand the Flyers.  Can i see them win the series – you bet.  Do I think they will win – no way.  Chicago has the youth, drive and talent to take this year’s chase for the Cup.

I have been impressed with the dramatic turnaround of the Blackhawks.  One a difference a new owner makes. This was a team ready to be heaped into the dumpster and has been resurrected and you see the passion of a city that loves its hockey coming out.  I loved seeing the Jordan statue decked out with a helmet and that awesome jersey – it has to be one of the best uniforms in all pro sports.

Can’t wait for the puck to drop and see how the Toews line stacks up against Pronger – should be a great battle – would love to hear all your thoughts on the series.

I have taken a large step here and entered into the world of blogging.  I hope it does not take me long to find my voice here.  I look forward to sharing my ideas as well as hearing the opinion of others.  We are all connected across this planet and the sum is always greater than its parts!

My career has focused on providing customer service and marketing in the equipment rental industry.  I have been proud to have been a part of a number of unbelievable projects in and around Toronto, Ontario and i always felt like I along with many others helped build a beautiful city.

Looking forward to hear about all your projects be it home renovations, landscaping or skyscraper you are building.  I am also looking forward to hear about your experiences in marketing, social media and customer service.  These along with my family are my passions.
